Water shutdown work delays to impact Ward 64 residents

Delays in the completion of the Southern Aqueduct shutdown has resulted in water supply only being expected to return from tomorrow (April 1).

WARD 64 residents will have to wait a little longer for the return of water supply following work delays in the Southern Aqueduct shutdown today (March 31). The shutdown was set to finish this morning, however due to delays, the shutdown is now expected to be completed by this evening with water supply returning by tomorrow (April 1). The interruption will be felt hardest by residents in Woodlands, Yellowwood Park and Coedmore.

Reason for shutdown

This interruption is part of routine maintenance managed by the municipality’s Water Services Directorate, which will undertake essential work on the bulk infrastructure along the Southern Aqueduct pipeline. The shutdown will also give contractors the opportunity to finalise preparatory tasks related to a broader upgrade project for the Southern Aqueduct system. Among these activities, certain segments of the pipeline will be scoured to allow for smoother future integration between the current network and new infrastructure.

The eThekwini Municipality has apologised for any inconveniences caused by this delay.
