Get lost in a story while giving the gift of life

Vendor Vusi Meyiwa of the Denis Hurley Centre Street Lit book project, hosted by Boll Property Group, will be offering books to read while donating blood in the Bluff.

BOOK vendor Vusi Meyiwa is enticing blood donors to read by offering them a chance to delve into bestselling novels while they donate blood at the SA National Blood Services Donor Clinic in Bluff Towers.

Meyiwa, who is one of the vendors at the Denis Hurley Centre Street Lit book project, and can be spotted with two tables filled with interesting, pre-read books, urges residents to pop by.

“This week, donors can put their feet up, relax in a chair in air-conditioned comfort, and enjoy biscuits with juice while reading a fabulous book, and at the same time, save a life.”

The SA National Blood Services clinic relies on blood donations to save lives, which is especially necessary ahead of the summer holidays,” said Meyiwa.

Donors can disclose to Vusi that they are a blood donor, and he will give them a free bookmark.

Illa Thompson, who is actively involved in book vending, said, “Giving blood allows you a few precious minutes of quiet time to enjoy reading a good book. It also enables you to do two good deeds simultaneously. Not only will you be saving a life by giving blood, but you will also be supporting a vendor who has experienced homelessness and who welcomes your patronage. The book vendors are currently being hosted as guests of Broll Property Group,” said Thompson.
