Singh began his teaching career in 1998 at Asherville Primary School as a young and committed teacher. He later moved to Glenwood High School, where he initially worked as a school governing body (SGB) teacher before becoming a State teacher in 2001. He was also part of the school’s SGB management team.

In January 2006, Singh started at New Forest High School, serving as a departmental head, a position he held until his recent promotion. During his time at the school he taught physical science and natural science to grades eight to 12, but now he teaches physical science only.

Singh’s appointment as deputy principal is a highlight of a career defined by commitment, drive, and self-development.

Reflecting on his experience, Singh said, “I am very thankful for the opportunities and guidance provided by the previous and current principals. When the news was announced, I was emotional and ecstatic; it is a long path with a lot of sacrifices. But I am thankful,” he said.

Looking to the future, Singh said he aims to make a positive contribution to the continued success of New Forest High School. “As a school, we see ourselves as a brain-safe, values-based centre of excellence for our community. As deputy principal, I will liaise closely with our principal, SGB and the New Forest High family to ensure our learners continue to receive a holistic, competitive education,” he said.

Singh emphasised the importance of being a role model, not just as a leader.

“Some of our learners have come from dysfunctional backgrounds. As a teacher, you tend to have to play a lot of roles to prepare your learners to be well-behaved, respectable children who can be members of society without any hassles. It is a pivotal role in transforming the lives of our learners, providing a good support system and maintaining an academically conducive environment at all times,” Singh shared.

He expressed his heartfelt thanks to the school community and his family for their unconditional love and support throughout his working life. “Their encouragement has kept me going all these years, and I share this achievement with them,” he said.
