Free rabies vaccination drive comes to Durban South

The Environmental Health Office’s rabies vaccination programme aims to curb the spread of the deadly yet preventable disease.

PET owners in the Durban South area are encouraged to make use of a free rabies vaccination drive conducted by the KZN Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. The drive will stop in Merebank, Merewent, Wentworth, Austerville, The Bluff, Clairwood and the surrounding areas from May 13-19.

This important programme aims to prevent the spread of rabies, a deadly but preventable disease, through offering free vaccination for pet animals, including dogs and cats. The programme will be conducted by the eThekwini State Vet Office in collaboration with the Environmental Health Office.

Dates:

May 13: Merebank

  • 09:00 – 10:30: Sports field in Dhubri Road
  • 11:00 – 12:00: Open space – Calicut Place parking area
  • 12:30 – 13:30: Library parking area in Dharwar Road

May 14: Merebank and Clairwood

  • 09:00 – 10:30: Punjab Circle open space
  • 11:00 – 12:00: Burdwan Road sports field
  • 12:30 – 13:30: Dayal Road open space, Clairwood

May 15: Austerville

  • 09:00 – 10:30: Family Health Clinic park behind the clinic
  • 11:00 – 12:00: Woraad Road park off Austerville Drive
  • 12:30 – 13:30: Silvertree Road car park

May 16: The Bluff

  • 09:00 – 10:30: Car park at the Green Dolphin Restaurant at Ansteys Beach
  • 11:00 – 12:00: Park opposite Sanlam Centre in Tara Road (Bluff Show Grounds)
  • 12:30 – 13:30: Park in St Patrick’s Road, Grosvenor

May 19: Kings Rest and Fynnlands

  • 09:00 – 10:30: Circle in Lieutenant King Crescent off Bluff Road
  • 11:00 – 12:00: Playlot in Island View Road

Pet owners are requested to bring pets on leashes or in carriers to ensure safety and speedy processing during vaccination.
