Harlequins tackle The Bluff in team-building clean-up

The Harlequins rugby team took to Marine Drive for a clean-up and managed to collect 40 black bags of litter.

THE Harlequins Rugby Club demonstrated their care for The Bluff community beyond the rugby field when they staged a team-building clean-up initiative along The Bluff recently. Swapping rugby boots for rubbish bags and rubber gloves, the men’s team, led by coach Dylan Barnard, tackled litter with gusto.

Starting from the Harlequins Rugby Club grounds, the team walked along Marine Drive to the army base, collecting rubbish as they went. After an eight hours shift, they collected a staggering 40 bags of rubbish.

Barnard explained, “The clean-up was done as a team-building day for the men’s team. The overarching objective was to give back to the community and raise some awareness that we are still an active club. We are hoping to build on our community on and off the field.”

The Bluff people welcomed the team with affectionate assistance, stopping to provide water and cold drinks for many of the players. “We had wonderful support from the community,” said Barnard. He expressed hope that the next clean-up will see more people back them in cleaning the area.

Barnard offered a special thank you to all who joined in the cause.
