High-speed drama: Suspect arrested after stealing police vehicle

The vehicle was stolen while the police from Wentworth police station were attending to a complaint at a company on Austerville Drive.

A MAN (23) who stole a police vehicle and later lost control of it on Austerville Drive was arrested by the police yesterday (July 24) after a dramatic chase.

According to the police report, the vehicle was stolen while the police from Wentworth police station were attending to a complaint at a company on Austerville Drive.

It is alleged that the suspect entered a police vehicle and drove about in Wentworth. The police have not confirmed whether the keys were left in the ignition at the time.

Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the suspect was charged with theft of motor vehicle and negligent driving.

“He was charged following an incident in which the suspect stole a police vehicle and drove recklessly on a public road.

“Police were attending to a complaint inside a company premises on Austerville Drive in Wentworth when the suspect got into the police vehicle and drove off. A high-speed chase ensued and the suspect was stopped and arrested,” said Netshiunda.
