Urgent plea to help save badly mauled pit bull
Pet Rescue Isipingo rescued Sara after she was viciously mauled, leaving her right ear completely ripped out and the other badly bitten.
A pit bull, Sara, is battling for her life after a vicious dog attack left her with head and ear injuries in Merebank. The severely mauled canine was rescued by Pet Rescue Isipingo on October 26, and the NPO is urgently appealing for donations towards a lifesaving R70 000 operation.

Nirvana Ramlall, the owner of the NPO, said that the rescue was made possible after local animal lover, Deanin Arendse, brought Sara’s case to her attention.
“I met her at Westville Veterinary Hospital at around 22:00. She is a friendly dog and is collared. The entire right side of her ear was ripped off, and the other was badly bitten. Initially, we were seeking the owner but have had no luck. Unfortunately, her diagnosis is not good, and surgery is required to remove the remaining ear tissue. Due to financial constraints, I have relocated her to Montclair Animal Hospital,” said Nirvana.
Despite the extent of her injuries, Ramlall said Sara is a living witness of resilience and added that an expert who examined her on October 28 verified that she requires reconstructive surgery, which can only be performed at Westville Veterinary Hospital.

The options:
“Time is of the essence, and Sara’s well-being depends on our collective efforts. Despite ongoing treatment, her condition worsens with each passing day. We have two options, raise the money for surgery in 24 hours, a challenge which requires our urgent attention and your generosity. The other is to euthanise her,” said Ramlall.
Ramlall is appealing to the community to donate money or assist in locating Sara’s owner, noting that Sara wears an unusual green collar and is a friendly dog.
“Please recognise that not everyone has access to Facebook, making it essential to share this post through other channels, such as neighbourhood WhatsApp groups. Sara’s owner might be searching for her in a different area, and your help could reunite them. Let’s join forces to provide Sara with a second chance at life. I’m counting on your compassion and support to help her overcome this challenging situation,” said Ramlall.
