The programme calls on primary and high schools in Durban South to gather recyclable items and give them to the municipality who will ensure these materials are correctly recycled and reused instead of letting the items go to waste in a dump.
Items required:
The eThekwini Municipality is calling for any of the following items:
- Old schoolbooks
- Notebooks
- Study guides that are not being used
- Plastics
- Cans
- Cardboard
The city says the campaign will help cut down on waste, teach learners about the environment and help schools become cleaner and greener. Schools that join will get large recycling bags from the Waste Management Directorate to help them collect items.
Prizes:
There are also prizes for the school that collects the highest number of books.
Entry details:
For further details or to sign up, schools can contact the Education and Waste Reduction Offices at 188 Sandile Thusi Road, Morningside, or call 031 322 0780 or email KDBarec@durban.gov.za.
