Raising funds and having fun at Grosvenor Boys High School

Learners at Grosvenor Boys High school enjoyed a variety of food stalls and some fun games of friendly soccer.

SCORES of learners at Grosvenor Boys High School came together in support of the school’s special fundraiser on February 13.

The fundraiser saw a variety of stalls and food vendors transform their school field into a mini market. Taliyah Stolls, a teacher at the school, said the main aim of the fundraiser was to raise funds to install air conditioning in the classrooms.

“With the recent rising temperatures, many of the boys have been unable to focus during class due to the heat. They are not comfortable in the classroom which is something we would like to try and alleviate,” said Stolls.

She added that while improvements to the buildings were important, the event had a second more meaningful purpose.

“The school also wanted to bring back the special Grosvenor spirit, that feeling of family, unity and brotherhood, and show the community that we as a school stand together,” said Stolls.

There was a wide selection of food and drinks available, including pizzas, boerewors rolls, cakes, soft drinks and mocktails. Learners were eager to engage in some friendly soccer games. For the less sports inclined learners, they also had music to provide some fresh beats and some wise words shared by motivational speakers.

Stolls said the whole point was to think of unique and fun ways that can help build and improve the school as well as the boys.
