Woodlands BC keeps a clean sheet in men’s inter-club league

THE third round of the Port Natal inter-club men’s league was played on Saturday, 29 March and Woodlands Bowling Club playing in the seventh division, remain top after recording their third straight clean sheet against Queens away with Dixie’s side winning 21-15 and Norman Moore’s side winning 19-15.

A fun day was played on Sunday, 30 March with a somewhat disappointing 24 bowlers taking to the greens. Fun was the essence of the day with the amber liquid flowing and the foam on the top produced worthy winners Alan Bower, Travis Whittstock and Dave Lloyd will be roasting the chickens. Everyone went home with a selected prize with cries of ‘can’t wait for the next one’ which incidentally will be on 29 June.

A novelty 2.00 a bowl bowl off was held at the end of the day with Lyn Carlyle bowling the fourth attempt to be nearest the jack. She then survived a number of attempts to take her off the jack to win the donated R100 cash prize. After two dismal attendances, it was decided to scrap the Wednesday night bingo as very little interest was shown.

Cobus van Vuuren caused a stir by winning all three meat prizes in the Friday night meat draw, while Cecil Strachan’s absence enabled the snowball to be carried over for another week, bumping up the pool. Be at the club at 6pm on Friday night to have a line in the water for the dangled carrot. John Campbell had first choice in the Saturday swindle with the rest of the prizes going to Alan Bower, Greg Berry, Glen Morris, Glen de Wildt, Bev Jenkins, Lofty Roets and Stan Mc Namara. Paul Conlon won the national lotto bonus draw.

The grapevine is abuzz that there is a new professional bowler in the area, looking at joining a local club. He uses a nickname similar to a deceased music star, with the same surname. Anyone interested in acquiring his service can call his agent Ron Gillespie. Stud is now out of hospital and recovering with his transfused plasma and is now not quite sure who he actually.
