Catch the Ferrie to the winning post

The Dennis Drier yard is really good form at the moment and they send out a decent and improving three-year-old in the form of Ferrie in Race 6 on the Polytrack at Greyville today.

This Trippi gelding went out a short-priced favourite in both of his first two starts but unfortunately for his followers was first beaten by Monte Christo at Scottsville then Percival at Kenilworth.

In both of those starts he was ridden by jockey Sean Cormack.

The form of those two races, however, has been decent so he was by no means disgraced especially keeping in mind that Percival has won twice since then and Ferrie was only 0.75 lengths inferior when they met.

Ferrie showed he was going forward with easy wins over subsequent winner Castlewood at Kenilworth in December and Royal Roy at Scottsville last month.

His win over Royal Roy was particularly impressive and the handicappers took note with a seven-point penalty.

Jockey Anton Marcus was on for that win and is back aboard which is a very nice sign.

Being a Graduation Plate there are other horses better weighted than Ferrie but it is unlikely Ferrie has reached his top rating.

Trainer Johan Janse van Rensburg is always to be feared when raiding KwaZulu-Natal and his charge, the filly Seattle Lady, cannot be dismissed.

This filly has run to a decent level of form in her recent runs and should run well with jockey Anthony Delpech aboard.

The strength of the juvenile form will be on show with the presence of Rob’s Jewel in the race as he has two wins already this season.

Spring Wonder also comes into the race with fair credentials and she could be involved in fighting it out for minor honours.

Charles Laird-trained Top Form is not an easy horse to pass and despite a wide draw deserves some respect.

Glen Kotzen-trained Night In Tahiti probably just needed her last run. She is well drawn now so has to be given a winning chance.
