Two bankers for Pick 6 punters
There look to be at least two decent bankers on today’s Kenilworth card and that should be very good news for those looking to cash in on the R200,000 bonus being added to the Pick 6 with an estimated pool of R1.3 million.
Justin Snaith saddles Muscatt in Race 6, a MR 96 Handicap over 1000m and this six-year-old son of Victory Moon has everything going for him. He looks a cut above the opposition, has a top jockey aboard in Bernard Fayd’Herbe and will not be in least fazed if the going is heavy.
His weight of 61kg is not over the top either and the fact that Fayd’Herbe will have very little dead weight to carry will also be a bonus. Snaith took Muscatt to KwaZulu-Natal for the winter season where he came up against some tough opposition and performed well enough, scoring one win and two places in four starts.
He returned to the Cape and may have been a touch unlucky last time to go down to the improving Captain Sam, to whom he was giving 6.5kg, as he was cut into during the running.
The other banker comes one race later in a Novice Plate for fillies and mares, also over 1000m, where Vaughan Marshall saddles three-year-old filly Varumba. She has raced four times for one win and three places, including a 3.10-length third behind Equus Award-winning Entisaar in the SA Fillies Nursery (Grade 2) at Turffontein and a 1.50-length third behind Petala in the Grade 3 Kenilworth Fillies Nursery.
She is at 2.5kg better handicapped than any of her opposition and should give MJ Byleveld a comfortable ride.
