This is the way to Amarillo

The Justin Snaith train continues to roll in the Eastern Cape and the incumbent Champion Trainer can add to his tally today when he saddles Amarillo Starlight in Race 8 on the Fairview turf track, a MR 85 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1200m.

This three-year-old daughter of Argonaut made a visit to Fairview as a juvenile and raced in two Juvenile Plates or 1100m and 1200m respectively, taking on the boys in both events. She was well supported to win her first race and duly obliged, getting up on the post to beat Rushing Lark by a short head. In her second run she drifted alarmingly in the betting and ran accordingly, ending up a 7.25-length fourth behind Frederick Fox.

She returned to Cape Town where she raced three times for no wins although she did run a 0.75-length second behind Goldandsilver, who won at Fairview last week. She returned to Port Elizabeth and scored a very impressive 2.25-length victory over Jay’s Favour in a Graduation Plate over 1200m.

Richard Fourie rode her on that occasion but this time talented apprentice Louis Mxothwa gets aboard.

Her main danger looks to be stable companion Diva’s Daughter, who has certainly travelled around the country. The five-year-old daughter of Trippi has raced in Cape Town, KwaZulu-Natal and now Port Elizabeth. Two runs back she contested a FM 87 Handicap and ran a 2.10-length fourth behind talented three-year-old filly Alexis at Kenilworth.

Her last race was at Fairview over 1600m in the Listed Lady’s Bracelet in which she finished a 3.50-length fifth behind Nonki Poo. Diva’s Daughter will enjoy the return to 1200m and has the services of Francois Herholdt who is just returning from injury.
