Uncle Tommy is hard to oppose

Trainer Weiho Marwing is a shrewd man and with the injury to jockey Derryl Daniels, who rode Uncle Tommy last time, has brought down jockey Marco van Rensburg to ride the Kahal gelding.

It will be the first time Uncle Tommy tries the Polytrack but as he has done exceptionally well on the sand surface this should not trouble the seven-year-old and it is hard to look past him winning Race 2, a Conditions Plate over 1400m at Greyville tonight.

It was a bit surprising Daniels never used front-running tactics on Uncle Tommy last time as these had been used to good effect numerous times before.

From his wide draw he was tucked at the back of the field and despite running on strongly Uncle Tommy only managed fifth place. He was not disgraced and was only five lengths adrift of Fourth Estate.

As he is better drawn in No 2 stall, Uncle Tommy could make all.

Strictly on merit-ratings Distinguished and Captain’s Daughter have the beating of Uncle Tommy but this is unlikely to be the case in the race.

Distinguished has not shown his best form for some time and was well beaten by Candy Moon when trying this surface.

And Captain’s Daughter will be receiving 12.5kg from Uncle Tommy but all her recent form has been against her same sex and in much weaker company.
