TBT: Alton Meiring

In this week’s instalment of Throwback Thursday, former Jomo Cosmos and Mamelodi Sundowns striker Alton Meiring talks about a prank he pulled on a certain coach.

“I won’t say which team I was playing for at the time or the name of the coach that I did this to,” Meiring told Phakaaathi.

“This coach was not nice to me, he was always on my case and hard on me all the time, sometimes he was unfair towards me. One day we travelled to go play a game out of town.

“When we got to the hotel that night I noticed which room the coach was in and managed to take one of the access keys to his room while we were checking into the hotel,” explained Meiring.

“Once we were all in our rooms. I left the hotel and went to the street to speak to a prostitute and asked how much she charges for the night and lied to her that I was trying to surprise a friend it was his birthday. I gave her the coach’s access key and room number and came into the hotel lift with her.

“She went into the coach’s room and I went back to mine to get a camera, went back to coach’s room and opened the door and took pictures. The coach was trying to get rid of her, I told her to take her clothes off when she got in there, the coach didn’t know what was going on and wanted her to leave and I got there just in time.

“So I said ‘coach what are you doing?’, I threatened to tell his wife and share picture with the club, since then he was nice to me and when I did not want to run as hard as the others in training, he didn’t force me. I kept this picture for a long time.”
