Maritzburg not signing ex-Pirates midfielder

Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Thamsanqa Sangweni has stopped training with Maritzburg United.

Sangweni was training with the Team of Choice hoping to earn a contract with the struggling coastal club who are at bottom of the league table.

Coach Eric Tinkler confirmed that Sangweni is no longer training with the club a week after he had joined the club for trials, Tinkler and the 29-year-old midfielder worked together at Chippa United before the coach was sacked.

Sangweni has struggled to find a club after leaving Pirates. The midfielder returned to United but his contract was terminated by the Chilli Boys to make room for players who would help the club survive relegation.

“No, he is no longer with us we decided against signing him,” Tinkler told Phakaaathi.

The former Chippa United coach didn’t give reasons why the club decided not to sign Sangweni.
