Hlatshwayo to Pirates talk overshadows Wits’ new signings unveiling

The unveiling of new players at Bidvest Wits was overshadowed by the club’s captain Thulani ‘Tyson’ Hlatshwayo’s link to Orlando Pirates.

Wits introduced Brandon Petersen, Siyanda Zwane, Sameegh Doutie, Prince Khumalo, Carl Lark, Zitha Macheke, Kenneth Sebastian, Ivan Mahangwahayo, Phathutshedzo Nange, and Joseph Douhadji at Johannesburg on Friday afternoon.

But the burning question was whether Hlatshwayo would be leaving the club or not, only for coach Gavin Hunt to quash the rumours saying the player would remain at Wits.

He said it was just rumours driven by the media and the defender would leave Wits for a better move outside the country.

“Tyson is not going anywhere, I certainly don’t want to lose Tyson. It’s been a media drive; I don’t know where it came from and it’s disturbing. But I don’t worry about this because I deal with the CEO and the chairman. So there is nothing like that, he will be here. He is the captain of our team.

“If he does go anywhere I think it will be a bigger and better move somewhere else.”
