TTM dump SuperSport out of the Nedbank Cup

Tumelo Makha secured the comeback win in extra time to book their passage to the semifinals.


Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila came back from two goals down to beat SuperSport United 3-2 in the quarterfinals of the Nedbank Cup at the Thohoyandou Stadium on Friday evening.

Matsatsantsa looked to be on their way to the semifinals of the competition when Ghampani Lungu doubled their lead in the 63rd minute, having led the game from the 17th minute through Jesse Donn’s wonderful strike.

However, Tumi Ngwepe and Naeem Amoojee hit back for the GladAfrica Championship outfit in the closing stages of regular time to take the game into extra-time. Tumelo Makha then secured the comeback win in extra time to book their passage to the semifinals.

SuperSport started the better of the sides and it did not come as a surprise when Donn, who unleashed a shot into the top left corner of the net from long range.

Vhadau Vha Damani tried to get back to the game but the game remained 1-0 in favour of Kaitano Tembo’s side at the half-time break.

SuperSport were awarded a penalty just after the hour mark after Nicholas Motloung was adjudged to have fouled Aubrey Ngoma inside the box. Lungu doubled Matsatsantsa’s lead just from the spot kick.

Six minutes later Ngwepe threw Vhadau a lifeline when he scored from range with a powerful volley. Amoojee then made it 2-2 five minutes from time to take the game into extra time.

Makha made sure that TTM go through to the semifinals when he scored in the first half of extra-time.
