Baxter expects Sundowns to win the league

SuperSport United coach Stuart Baxter believes the momentum is in Mamelodi Sundowns favour in the league title race.

Sundowns have turned things around after going through a slump that saw them playing three draws and suffering two defeats in five matches.

Pitso Mosimane’s charges beat SuperSport United 5-0 and 1-0 in back-to-back league matches and Free State Stars 1-0 to move to within two points of log leaders Capet Town City, with two games in hand.

“We were well in the race, but we are on the fringes now. Sundowns with the two wins against us gave them the boost, they were slipping away they were looking tired but the derby gave them the boost they needed. There are a lot of different ways in winning the title.”

Matsatsantsa have no time to lick their wounds as they have to gear up for Nedbank Cup clash with Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.

“I have told the players that this is not a game for sissies at the moment, it is for players that can pick themselves up and perform. I am sure by the time we get to Kaizer Chiefs they will be hungry.”
