Clean sheets will take us a long way – Seema

Bloemfontein Celtic caretaker coach Lehlohonolo Seema says if they can manage to keep clean-sheets for the remainder of the season, they could see themselves making giant leaps on the Absa Premiership table.

Celtic’s resilient defence has now kept three clean sheets on the trot, the most recent coming against defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday evening.

“The good thing at the moment is the clean sheets. I am putting emphasis on that. The more clean sheets we have, we stand a good chance of jumping a lot of teams. They will help and come handy for us. Those clean sheets, the wins and the draws here and there, I will be happy if it is a 0-0 draw because a 1-1 draw for us feels like a loss. I am sure that come the last two games of the season, those clean-sheets will count,” Seema told reporters.

The former Orlando Pirates captain continued: “From the first game of the season, we have been looking for these clean sheets and they were not there. But now because they are there, we are not going to put ourselves under pressure and say we want to finish in the top eight. No, we take it one game at a time.”

Siwelele occupy the 11th position on 23 points, and they still have to face fellow strugglers Free Sate Stars, Baroka FC and Highlands Park.

Seema is adamant that they need to pick up at least a point from each of their remaining fixtures, and he is hopeful to have new coach Luc Eymael in the dugout on Saturday when they welcome National First Division side Mbombela United to the Dr Molemela Stadium in a Nedbank Cup tie on Saturday.

“For us, these last eight games, every game that we play, if we can manage to get a point, we will be happy. If it is three points, then it will be a bonus because we know that every point counts at the moment.

“Everyone in the Celtic family can’t wait for the coach to be on the bench, I hope that Sunday against Mbombela United, he will be on the bench and the two heads can combine and we can get better results and score more goals.”
