Folz confirms Buchanan, Mphahlele exit from AmaZulu

The former Kaizer Chiefs duo were handed their clearances with just three months left on their contracts.

AmaZulu FC coach Romain Folz has confirmed that two senior players, Keagan Buchanan and Ramahlwe Mphahlele have been released by the club.

The two were reportedly handed their clearances with just three months left on their contracts and told not to return to the team.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Folz confirmed that the duo were no longer with his team but refused to give reasons.

“We took the decision to let them go elsewhere because I believe that it’s best for the team and best for the club,” Folz is quoted as saying.

“I always do what’s best for the team, that’s my only priority. We have a clear vision on where we want to go.

“It’s a process, things don’t just happen so you have to make decisions. Every decision that we take is for the benefit of the team and looking to improve what we have.

“Every decision that we take is to get positive results and outcomes,” added the PSL’s youngest mentor.

Phakaaathi has however learnt that the duo and other senior players were outed as being the ‘rotten potatoes’ in the Usuthu team.

A source who is close to the team said they had been openly disregarding the coach even during media open days when journalists are there.

“I have seen them a couple of times where the coach would call them but they would ignore him and continue with their talks.

“They were ganging up on the coach but I think Keagan and Rama were unlucky that they are the only ones who got the sack,” said the source.

“I am wondering how the others survived the chop because they were a cabal. But maybe the two were leaders of this cabal,” added the source.

Majoro staying put

One of the players who were believed to have also been sent packing was Lehlohonolo Majoro.

But Folz said the veteran striker who has previously played for both Soweto giants Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs was staying put.

“It was never the intention of the club at any point to get rid of Majoro,” said Folz.

“He was injured for the previous game with an ankle injury that has been persistent. The was never any issue with him.”

The source said Majoro will remain because the club president Sandile Zungu is planning a huge farewell for him when he retires.

“We have heard that they would want to thank him for his service to the club and he is seen as a loyal servant,” said the source.
