Gaxa opens up about a fall out with Komphela and Chiefs exit

Former Bafana Bafana international Siboniso Gaxa has lifted the lid surrounding his controversial exit from Kaizer Chiefs.

Gaxa was released by Chiefs after having reportedly signed a new contract extension with Amakhosi.

The former SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns defender revealed that he questioned then coach Steve Komphela on the direction the club was taking under his leadership and was pushed out of the club before his contract expired.

“I had signed a new extension with Chiefs, they then took the contract to the chairman. There is process for the chairman to sign the contracts,” Gaxa explained to SAFM Sport.

“Then I had a fall out with the coach (Steve Komphela), the sad part is when you see people on TV you think they are nice people they are honest and have integrity, I was with these people for four years and it was a good relationship, smiles and all, then someone comes in and then there is a fallout between me and him because I was not happy with the direction Chiefs was going and I had to intervene. When there was a fallout during the season the question was ‘is this man going to be here for two seasons?’, he speaks for the players and understand the issue of the players, so now it’s going to be an issue, one must die.”

The 34-year-old believes challenging Chiefs’ decision to axe him made him less attractive to some clubs, which has left him on the sidelines.

“If you challenge the authorities in South African football, you have to be prepared for exclusion, you will be excluded. I know this.”
