Mashaba and Safa find peace at last
Shakes Mashaba has finally reached a cash settlement with the South African Football Association in the dispute over his sacking as head coach of Bafana Bafana.
Mashaba took Safa to the Court for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration for wrongful dismissal, after he was sacked in December for gross misconduct, gross insubordination and a violation of Safa policy.
The former Orlando Pirates was initially suspended in November after a public outburst at the Peter Mokaba Stadium following Bafana’s 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifying win over Senegal.
Mashaba was seeking reinstatement in his job as head coach, but Safa have subsequently hired Stuart Baxter, and on Friday Mashaba’s lawyer, Claudio Bollo, confirmed a cash settlement had been reached.
“It has been resolved, the amount (of the settlement) is confidential, but my client is happy that fair settlement has been arrived at,” said Bollo, who did admit that the process had taken longer than they would have liked.
Mashaba has been in dispute with Safa since February, when initial attempts at mediation failed and the matter was forced to go to court.
“This should have been resolved very close to the start (of the process),” said Bollo.
