Chiefs’ Nurkovic back home in Serbia

'It was decided that he should head home and spend time with family so he could de-stress,' said the source.

Kaizer Chiefs have given Samir Nurkovic some time off as he recovers from surgery. The Serbian has been allowed to go back home to attend to family issues while he recovers and he could be back only next year, according to sources.

Nurkovic underwent surgery a few weeks ago to attend to a niggling injury that he had carried for a while.

“The other thing the team noticed is that he was unwell, he was not the same and it is believed that it could be because he has not had much time with family since joining the club.

“So it was decided that he should head home and spend time with family so he could also destress and come back fresh and ready to fight for his place,” said the source.

Nurkovic looked to be struggling and frustrated as he could not fit immediately into the way Stuart Baxter wants Chiefs to play. He plays as a conservative No. 9 but under Baxter he has been converted and plays from the side.
