Fans throw Chiefs management a curveball on Zwane

'Everyone wants him to succeed so badly because that would redeem the club’s name. He is a perfect Chiefs coach in terms of his demeanour,' said a source.

Kaizer Chiefs management are said to be unsure about how to handle the Arthur Zwane issue after he was attacked by unhappy supporters in Rustenburg at the weekend.

Zwane is reported to have needed medical attention after he was hit by an object thrown by the supporters at him as he left the field at Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace on Saturday.

This was after Chiefs had suffered their fourth loss in five games with the 1-0 defeat to SuperSport United.

The loss put paid to Amakhosi’s hopes of continental competitions participation next season. And on top of that, the side will also finish their eighth season without any silverware.

A source has claimed that Chiefs management are deliberating on what to do next as the supporters have filed their vote of no confidence in Zwane.

Calls for Zwane’s firing or demotion from Chiefs fans have been lingering all season and came to an unfortunate head on Saturday.

“You know what usually happens when such incidents happen right? But now this one is very different because Zwane is the club’s project.

“Everyone wants him to succeed so badly because that would redeem the club’s name. He is a perfect Chiefs coach in terms of his demeanour.

Zwane perfect fit for Chiefs but…

“But now the supporters have thrown a spanner in the works. The club has to make a call on his future.

“If they fire him, it will look bad because it would mean they again made the wrong call in terms of appointing a coach.

“Remember that that has happened with at least the last five or six coaches there. But if they keep him, and things still don’t go their way next season, it means another year of a dry run.

“It is a tough one for them but they have to make a decision,” said the source. He also conceded that Zwane might be given some time off this week to cool off.

“What he went through is heavy emotionally and such things take a lot from you especially if you are a local coach, a club legend.

“He might be given time off and that would mean he would not be there on Saturday when they close off the season.”
