Orlando Pirates not ‘Hunting’ for Gavin, rumours denied

Reports linking suspended Chippa United coach Gavin Hunt to Orlando Pirates are nothing but baseless rumours and the club has put their faith in co-coaches Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids, a source at the club has revealed.

Hunt, who was suspended by the Chilli Boys last week is said to be on the verge of being fired following a stint of poor results. That has led to a lot of reports suggesting the former Kaizer Chiefs mentor’s situation at the Eastern Cape outfit is closely being monitored by the Bucs management.

“No, there is no way that Hunt is coming here (to Pirates), well, at least for now, because we don’t know what might happen in the coming years,” insisted the source.

“I think the person who started this rumour is someone who just wants to see Gavin coaching Pirates, nothing more. If there is one thing I can tell you, coach Mandla and coach Davids will finish the season as management are behind them.”

Meanwhile, as previously reported, Pirates are said to be considering recalling Monnapule Saleng from his loan deal at Swallows FC.

Phakaaathi has learnt that the current co-coaches at Pirates, Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids have spoken to management about the possibility of Saleng coming back.

“They were not in charge when the decision to send him on loan was taken. But when (Vincent) Pule got injured they saw that Saleng could have come handy for the playmaker position as they were left without one. And with (Thembinkosi) Lorch also injury prone, they need a young player to be their understudy and Saleng is a perfect fit,” said the source.
