Why Ofori may not walk back into the Pirates starting line-up

'It’s going to be hard for Ofori to come back and take the number one spot. He will have to fight for it very hard,' a source told Phakaaathi.

Ghanaian international goalkeeper Richard Ofori is not guaranteed to take over the number one spot in the Orlando Pirates starting line-up when he returns from injury, an insider at the Buccaneers has revealed.

It is said that Siyabonga Mpontshane has impressed the Bucs technical team with his work ethic, which is why he was even considered to fill in for Ofori over veteran shot-stopper Wayne Sandilands.

Mpontshane has played four games for the Buccaneers since Ofori came back to the club injured during the September international break.

In the four games, Mpontshane conceded four goals, as Pirates won two games, drew one and lost one.

“Siya has been in the stands for some time now, he has been third choice keeper with the coaches preferring Wayne or Ofori over him. We all know that he only played when those two were injured. But this time around the coaches thought it’s best to give him a chance, because even when he was left out of the match day squad, he still gave everything at training,” a source told the Mgosi squad.

“He never looked down, he kept his head high. At some point he wanted to leave, but I’m sure he is happy now that he never left because the coaches are happy with his contributions. It’s going to be hard for Ofori to come back and take the number one spot. He will have to fight for it very hard.”
