Molongoane says Gallants are ready for Caf Confederation Cup challenge

Gallants were knocked out by TP Mazembe last season.

Following the Caf Confederation Cup draw this week, Marumo Gallants experienced winger Joseph Molangoane says they will be aiming for the knock-out stages in this season’s tournament.

Gallants were drawn in Group A alongside USM Alger of Algeria, Al Akhdar of Libya, and FC Saint Eloi Lupopo in a draw that took place in Cairo, Egypt.

This is the second time Gallants will be competing in the Caf competition, with the club having featured in last season’s tournament, but they were knocked out by TP Mazembe in the final round of the group stages qualifiers.

Having reached the group stage this time around, Molangoane is adamant that they will be up to the task against their opponents.

“I saw the draw, and I think it is a good draw for us. This is what we have been waiting for and what we have fought for this season. We have done very well in this season’s Confederation Cup and I think that says a lot about our ambitions in the tournament,” said Molangoane.

“Everybody is ready and we are back at training preparing for what’s coming our way. Every player in the team knows that this is a big deal and being in the group stages puts us on the map. We are representing the country and we want to make sure that we will raise the South African flag high.”

On personal level, the winger says it’s very important for him to always put on a good performance for the club and make sure that he goes all out to help the team.

“I am happy with my contribution to the team, but I know I can do a lot more. That is why I always have to make sure that I work hard so that I can improve. We are also looking forward to continuing with the DStv Premiership. It’s going to be a long season for us, but we started knowing and we are ready to face anything.”
