NFD wrap: Cosmos hit with four as Highlands extend their lead

Highlands Park were in mean mood at Vosloorus Stadium on Sunday where they beat Jomo Cosmos 4-0 to ensure they keep a safe gap between them and their chasers for the National First Division (NFD) title.

With Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila having already lost on Friday, the Lions of the North had to ensure they extend their lead and did so in fien style as they walked all over Ezenkosi.

Real Kings meanwhile returned to winning ways, beating provincial neighbours Richards Bay FC 1-0, to climb back to second spot on the standings. None of the relegation threatened teams could find a break thorugh as most secured draws which did little to improve their situations.

Super Eagles 1 (M. Mokoena) Witbank Spurs 1 (P. Mubayiwa)
Modibudi Mokoena took his tally to 11 as he converted from a penalty spot late in the second half to ensure his side keep at least a point against a Siyavutha team determined to get back into contention for a promotion spot. Peter Mubayiwa had put Siyavutha ahead early in the first half.

Jomo Cosmos 0 Highlands Park 4 (M. Mvala; P. Shalulile; S. Mahlangu; S Nyembe)
The goal fest was started by captain Mothobi Mvala and Peter Shalulile, Sphiwe Mahlangu and Sabelo Nyembe followed suit with a goal each. The score could have been bigger had it not for Ezenkosi keeper who made some good saves.

Stellenbosch 1 (I. Rayners) Ubuntu CT 1 (H. Gerome)
Heutchou Gerome saved Ubuntu blushes as he equalised to ensure they save at least a point against promotion chasers. Iqraam Rayners scored for Stellies. “We probably could have won this one but we will take a point against a side knocking on the door for promotion,” wrote Ubuntu on Twitter after the match.

Black Leopards 2 (K. Tshepe, M. Musonda) Mbombela United 0
The scorers of match details could not be established at the time of publishing.

Mthatha Bucks (Mwabinga. Uhuru) 1 AmaTuks 1 (Zithulele Mhlontlo)
Mwabinga Uhuru’s goal was enough to earn Amathol’amnyama a point against one of the division’s top sides this season but Duncan Lechesa’s team could have collected all three points in this one. Zithulele Mhlontlo scored for the visitors.

Real Kings 1 (N Makhubela) Richards Bay 0
Ntsako Makhubela was the hero for the Magic Boys as his goal was enough to seal the deal and send his team to second spot. Simo Dladla’s team are now nine points behind leaders Highlands Park.

Royal Eagles 1 (Dillan Solomons) Uthongathi FC 1 (D. Sibisi)
Both could have secured the three points which they desperately need but it was not to be and the spoils were shared. Dillan Solomons scored for Eagles while former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Diyo Sibisi did the same for the Cane Cutters.

CT All Stars 3 (Shaq Abrahams x2; Mickayle Jackson ) Tshakhuma 1 (D. Mathebula)
Igugu leKapa were just too good and put brakes on Tshakhuma’s rise, beating them 3-1. Tshakhuma are now third following the defeat. The win has sent All Stars into contention for a promotion place finish.
