Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza broke the news to members of the media at a press conference at the Rand Stadium.
It is not clear if the incident is connected to what happened at Loftus on Saturday when disgruntled Pirates fans rushed on to the field to confront their underperforming players, who conceded six goals on a hot summer’s day in Pretoria.
“One of my players had a burglary at his house on Sunday,” said Khoza, without mentioning the player’s name.
“His partner at the house used a gun to scare off the burglars,” he added, then threw around questions on whether or not this could be related to the violence on Saturday.
“These are the kind of issues that we will never get to know how they affect these players because we don’t know what the cause of that [burglary] was. Was it just a burglary from criminality or what was it? I don’t know.”
