Playing NFD not a step back, says former Pirates player

Former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns player, Thamsanqa Sangweni says playing for National First Division side, Richard’s Bay FC is not a step back in his career that was once seen as flourishing.
Sangweni joined Bay after he was chased away at Chippa United and failed to impress at Maritzburg United while on trial earlier this year.
“I don’t see coming here as a step back. Anything can happen in football, I don’t see what can stop us from getting to the NFD playoffs and win promotion. I have played at various big teams and what I learnt is that you have to wait for your chance and use it well when it comes,” he was quoted saying by Isolezwe this week.

When Sangweni joined Pirates at the beginning of last season, he was seen as the man to fill his big brother Siyabonga’s void at the Soweto giants. But a fight with assistant coach, Rhulani Mokoena put paid to his stay at the Buccaneers as he was shipped off to the Chilli Boys but he couldn’t hold down a regular place and was released in June 2018.
Sangweni said he appreciates the support that he has received from the Natal Rich Boys supporters since joining the club promising to give his best on the field to help the side get to the Absa Premiership.
