The Pietermaritzburg-based side has proven to be a free-scoring side, netting eight goals in their last two games.

Royal AM had a slow start to their maiden top-flight season with defeats to Swallows FC and Cape Town City. But after that, things changed and they are now on a three-match winning streak.

Kabelo Mahlasela is one of the best performers at the flashy Royal AM whose owner Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize is known for her penchant for the nice things in life.

He says the performances and results are just the rewards of the hard work the Royal AM players put in at training.

Skudu, as Mahlasela is known, was named Man-of-the-Match after their 4-2 drubbing of TS Galaxy on Sunday afternoon.

“I would like to thank my teammates, we have been working really hard at training.

“Having won 4-1 against Chiefs, we had pressure because everyone was waiting to see if that was a fluke win. I think today (Sunday) showed that we are really working hard at training and reaping the rewards,” added the pint-sized, nimble-footed attacker.

He says he had been changed from his more offensive role and given more responsibility as a No 6 this season.
Mahlasela scored the fourth goal in Galaxy’s demolition.

“The coach believes in me, and everyone in the team believes in me. I am not playing the same position as last season, a No 10.

“I have been pushed to No 6 and that requires one to really get stuck in and that is what I do in each and every game. I work hard.”

The high-flying Royal AM will next face Maritzburg United in the KwaZulu-Natal derby at CHatsworth Stadium on Sunday.
