Spurs end coaching speculation, announce Middendorp

Ernst Middendorp has swiftly bounced back into coaching, securing a new role as the head coach for Cape Town Spurs after a brief stint in Tanzania.

Middendorp had recently taken charge of Tanzanzaian club Singida Fountain Gate but left abruptly, citing disagreements with management.

This move comes less than two months after his return to South Africa. 

Shaun Bartlett’s departure created the vacancy at Cape Town Spurs, prompting Middendorp’s appointment.

Previously, Middendorp’s recent coaching history has been marked by sudden exits.

His departure from Moroka Swallows last season, leaving them in a precarious position facing relegation, raised eyebrows. 

Following a brief coaching stint in Germany, where he faced challenges helping a lower-ranked team avoid relegation, Middendorp’s move to Tanzania was similarly short-lived.

Middendorp has his work cut out at Spurs

Now at Cape Town Spurs, he steps into a situation where the team has undergone recent coaching changes.

Shaun Connor was recently installed as the technical director and Vasili Masounakis as an assistant coach. 

Despite the team’s victory over Orlando Pirates under the interim coaching staff, Middendorp’s track record suggests an unpredictable coaching journey.
