Stellenbosch coach slams ball boys after defeat

Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker was left disappointed by the conduct of the ball boys during their game against Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila  at the Thohoyadou Stadium last weekend.

Barker claims the ball boys were instructed by their opponents not to give the ball to his players for them to restart the game, which ended 3-2 in favour of the home side.

Barker says the club needs to treat visiting team the same way they would like to be treated when they are playing away from home.

“Their keeper has done well all season, they are a team that plays well so we knew it was going to be a tough came,” said Barker.

“I think it is a bit of a trend (delay by ball boys) but in higher level like the PSL you don’t see this. It’s not a good portrayal of the club. When you travel all the way from Cape Town to here (Thohoyandou) and then the opponents are instructing the ball boys not give you the ball. For me that’s ungentlemanly  and it’s not in the spirit of the sport.”
