Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies assistant coach Agnes Nkosi says the team is eager to make a name for themselves in continental football ahead of the start of maiden Caf Women’s Champions League in Cairo, Egypt on Saturday.

Banyana Ba Style earned the right to represent the Southern African region after winning the Cosafa qualifiers back in September and they will be going up against teams from Kenya, Morocco and Nigeria. Having landed in Cairo on Tuesday, Nkosi is confident that the team will do well, especially looking at their domestic form in the Hollywoodbets Super League, where they continue to dominate their opponents.

“As you have seen from the recent games we have played in the Hollywoodbets Super League, the girls are ready to stamp their authority in the Caf Champions League as quickly as possible. In the last two or three games, we have faced very tough opposition and we expect such challenges from our Group opponents in Egypt. One thing I can tell you is that the motivation within the camp is high,” said the Downs ladies assistant coach.

“During our training sessions, the girls are always giving their best. I am very certain that the team is ready for the challenge ahead. We are going to Egypt to represent the Mamelodi Sundowns brand, our fans, the nation of South Africa and the Southern African region. As I work with Coach Jerry and the technical team, I believe that we can bring the highly coveted title home.”

The Downs ladies, who are in Group A at the competition, will open their campaign against Vihiga Queens of Kenya, before facing River Angels of Nigeria three days later, and closing off the group phase with a battle against AS Far of Morocco on 12 November.
