SuperSport continue to pile pressure on Chiefs and Pirates for second spot

'When you get to this point, everyone is fighting for something,' says Hunt.

SuperSport United are keeping up with the pace to finish second in the DStv Premiership after they managed to beat AmaZulu 2-1 on Sunday evening at the TUT Stadium.

Gavin Hunt’s side are now a point ahead of third-placed Orlando Pirates, but The Spartans have played a game more than the Buccaneers, who will be in action again at the end of the month against TS Galaxy.

Hunt was pleased with his side’s overall display but was quite annoyed that they could not convert their many chances into goals.

“When you get to this point, everyone is fighting for something. We have three games left and we will see how far we go. We had good opportunities even though we played on a very difficult pitch, it is very bumpy and hard to play on but we battled away,” said the SuperSport mentor.

Usuthu’s struggle continues

Meanwhile, Usuthu, who are looking to finish in the top half of the table, have now gone four games without win and with their goalkeeper, Veli Mothwa facing the possibility of also missing their next game against Sekhukhune, it might go from bad to worse for Ayanda Dlamini’s side.

The caretaker coach also blamed his side for lack of organisation, saying his defence was what let them down against SuperSport.

“It was exactly what we expected, that they would score via crosses and long balls. It means we are not organised enough to concede the way we did,” said Dlamini.

“As for Mothwa, we are hoping that by the next game he will be fine. But I am happy for Jody February because he came in and saved us in some situations,” he added before he lamented the fact that the remaining four games will be like cup finals for the KwaZulu-Natal outfit.

“We have to keep going because we have our backs against the wall. We are playing at home against a very good team next time, we just have to get the results, it doesn’t matter how we get them because if we don’t, the teams behind us are going to catch us.”
