SuperSport sign Botswana captain Ditlhokwe

SuperSport United have announced the signing of Botswana international defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe from Township Rollers on a three-and-a-half-year deal.

The 21-year-old helped the Gaborone giants to lift the Botswana Premier League in the 2018/19 season and was rewarded with a national team call up.

Ditlhokwe says he is looking forward to working with coach Kaitano Tembo at United.

“I am very happy to be here in this great team. The club has won a lot of trophies in the past and I want to be part of that winning environment and I am also looking forward to working with coach Kaitano Tembo. As a former player and current coach of the team, I think I can learn a lot from him and reward him for the faith he has put in signing me,” said Ditlhokwe.

SuperSport CEO Stan Matthews said: “TT is a player we have tracked for some time and we feel he has a really bright future at SuperSport. We have had Botswana players here before like Dipsy Selolwane, Mogogi Gabonamong, and Mogakolodi Ngele and they all made an impact, so we are looking forward to TT helping us to win trophies and maintain a good league campaign.”

Meanwhile, Ditlhokwe’s agent Errol Dicks confirmed that the player also had formal offers from Europe but chose to come to the PSL as his path of choice.

“TT had interest from Europe, but he is young and has time on his side and as a first move out of the country SuperSport is an ideal platform for him to shine in a team that is not afraid to play young players,” said Dicks.
