Why Mdantsane is no longer Baroka captain

Baroka FC coach Wedson Nyirenda says people should not read too much into Mduduzi Mdantsane having the captain’s armband taken from him.

Gerald Phiri Jnr was appointed as Bagaga’s new captain after Mdantsane was stripped of his captaincy.

“There’s nothing wrong about changing the captain. It’s the club’s policy to change captains,” Nyirenda told The Sowetan.

Mdantsane is rumoured to be on his way out of Baroka FC in January having attracted interest from other PSL clubs.

“I don’t speak about speculations, so my decision of making Phiri the new captain has nothing to do with that.”

“He did very well when he was our captain, even when the announcement that we are removing him as the skipper was made, he took it like a man. He never sulked. He’s still the first person to arrive at training and the last to go home.”

Kaizer Chiefs are one of the sides believed to be chasing the player’s signature to reinforce the squad for next season.
