Will transfer ban save Zulu’s career at Chiefs?

Kaizer Chiefs coach, Ernst Middendorp has apparently already tabled his plans for next season and defender Philani Zulu is one of the players he plans to ship out, a source has claimed.

Phakaaathi has found out that Middendorp wants to make space for youngsters and the former Maritzburg United defender is one of those who will make way.

But he could still be saved and stay on should Amakhosi fail in their bid to have the transfer ban handed by Fifa last year reversed.

“He is on the list of those who will be released at the end of the season. There are players like Happy Mashiane who are waiting on the wings in the same position and have shown an understanding of what the coach needs from them. Zulu was given this season to prove himself and it hasn’t really gone well for him,” said the source.

Having joined Chiefs during Steve Komphela’s dry run at Naturena over two years ago, Zulu has never really broken into he starting team. But he could still remain at Amakhosi, the source claimed.

“Two things may still save him. One, if the ban is not lifted, Chiefs will need him for experience because it will mean they can’t get new players. Two, Middendorp’s own future is not cast in stone and he could still be the one released and Zulu would then get a chance to impress whoever takes over, ” said the source.
