Cops nab man with loaded pistol in midnight raid

Police spokesperson Sergeant Josephine Rani said the suspect is facing serious charges and will be appearing in court soon.

ZAMDELA – A late-night police swoop in Amelia ended with a shocking discovery when a fully loaded 9mm pistol was discovered stashed under a sofa cushion.

At around 22:06 on August 5, members of the Crime Prevention Group 1 stormed a shack after a tip-off about an illegal firearm kept in the premises.

“When officers searched the shack, they found the pistol with a magazine packed with ten live rounds hidden under the couch,” said police spokesperson Sergeant Josephine Rani.

The 42-year-old man inside couldn’t produce a single scrap of paperwork proving he owned the weapon, which led to his arrest.

Rani said the suspect is facing serious charges of possessing an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and will be appearing in court soon.

“Investigations are continuing to determine the origin of the firearm and if the firearm was used in the commission of any other crime,” she said.
