Local music producer wins big at Mzansi Art & Media Awards

From the Vaal to the national stage, Beatz Blaze is putting local talent and township sound on the map.

MEYERTON – Local music producer Thabo ‘Beatz Blaze’ Mokoena has been crowned Best Producer at the Mzansi Art & Media Awards 2026, held at the Victory Theatre on 1 May.

The 32-year-old producer has built a strong reputation for his unique blend of amapiano, hiphop, and soulful house music.

Known for tracks such as Mataozen and Avulekile, Beatz Blaze has also worked with several artists, including Calvin Jesster and MLK Guota Mabesa.

Accepting the award on stage, Beatz Blaze dedicated the achievement to aspiring young creatives from Meyerton.

“This one’s for the kids in Meyerton who still believe a laptop and a dream can change everything. We don’t just make beats — we tell stories,” he said.

The awards celebrated excellence across music, film, radio, and digital media, bringing together artists, media personalities, and creatives from across the country.

Among the nominees on the night was MLK, host of The Daily Morning Drive on WM Radio, who received a nomination for Best Radio Presenter.

Speaking after the event, Beatz Blaze said the award motivates him to continue uplifting local talent and collaborating with upcoming artists.

His music is available on major digital streaming platforms worldwide, and the producer says he remains focused on creating authentic South African sounds that connect with audiences everywhere.
