BYD has officially joined the Star Motor Group, giving customers in the Vaal greater access to the innovative vehicle manufacturer’s growing range of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. BYD was established in 1994 by Wang Chuanfu and rapidly expanded into the biggest new energy vehicle brand in the world. BYD entered the South African market in 2023 and currently has 52 dealers across South Africa, with rapid expansion underway to reach 80 locations before the end of the year. BYD chairman Mr Wang Chuanfu announced last month that BYD is planning to become the largest automaker in the world within thenext five years.

BYD developed the blade battery (Lithium Iron Phosphate), which is regarded as the safest battery in the world because it does not catch fire after being damaged in an accident.
