105 not out steers Old Vaal to victory

VANDERBIJLPARK. - Old Vaal’s first cricket team got 2020 off to a cracking start with a convincing victory over New Vaal Colliery.

The match was the only fixture played over the weekend in the Sedibeng First League. Old Vaal made the most of their home field advantage, thumping New Vaal by 9 wickets.
The visitors won the toss and elected to bat, and scored 130/9 in their allotted 35 overs. Ruan Havenga was their top batsman scoring 57 runs. For Old Vaal the wickets were shared amongst all their bowlers with D.Aucamp, SD du Plessis and J. Peens each taking two wickets.
Chasing 131 runs for the win Old Vaal reached the target with nine wickets in the bank. rChristo du Preez was the star of the day scoring 105 runs not out.
