Midvaal adheres to lockdown

MEYERTON. - Due to the scourge of Coronavirus the Midvaal Local Municipality (MLM) has closed all its public facilities. The municipality said that they have taken extensive and intensive measures to protect both the staff and the residents of Midvaal.

The public facilities that are closed include libraries, swimming pools and halls until further notice due to the spread of Coronavirus.
MLM Executive Mayor, Bonagi Baloyi said that they are committed in partnering with the national government and NGO’s in a fight against Coronavirus.
“Our hearts and thoughts go out to the people who have been affected by this unprecedented event and we appreciate the health workers, local communities and governments around the world who are on the frontline working to contain Coronavirus,” Baloyi said.
Amongst others, the following are effective immediately:
•No public meetings or gatherings of people more than 100 will be permitted in Midvaal
•Midvaal colour fun run is cancelled
•Residents are discouraged from attending mass gatherings
The municipality has also established a multi-departmental Joint Operations Committee within the municipality that will keep abreast of local, regional and international developments.
“We should spread wisdom by proactively sharing reliable, factual information and guidance. It is our best way of countering fake news and conspiracy theories that are fueling mistrust, panic and reckless behaviour- threatening our collective response to the epidemic.”
