VANDERBIJLPARK. – According to reports shared on social media, a motorboat sank on Saturday evening, 13 June after hitting a concrete jetty close to the Barrage wall.

Vaalweekblad contacted the SAPD and the water wing but the incident could not be confirmed by authorities. The incident was however confirmed on the Vaal River Rats Facebook page.

The post on June 15 read: “There has been a report of a boat accident which happened close by the barrage wall. Apparently this went down last night, the boat drove into the concrete jetty, the entire jetty submerged and some people were hurt. We cannot stress enough if you go out and do not know the routes and dangers of the river you should not be driving at night. Everyone who owns a boat should have a license, registered boat, and a good knowledge of their river/dam.”
