Expert paramedic heads respected emergency training centre in the Vaal
ResQbude: World class medical emergency training and accredited sanitisation practices now available in the Vaal
VANDERBIJLPARK. – Many Vaal Triangle residents, doctors and other medical personnel have come to know Kuban Naidoo as an accomplished paramedic with a strong, solid history in Emergency Medical Care (EMS) and Training. Kuban’s CV and work related experiences all over Africa and abroad, and the bloody scenes he has encountered while assisting the injured, read like a real-life James Bond movie script. The difference is that in Kuban’s case, he has to do with REAL blood – not the fake kind found on movie scenes. This compassionate man is used to genuine life and death situations.
Kuban, who was born in Durban, started his Emergency Services Career in 1994 right after completing his Matric. He dedicated his early years in EMS to delivering high quality emergency care, responding to accidents, fires, natural disasters and many other medical emergency situations. This passionate EMS provider who is able to remain calm under pressure and react swiftly in urgent life-threatening situations , soon qualified as an Advanced Life Support Practitioner. He was immediately seen as a motivational leader with strong interpersonal skills. With 22 years experience as a paramedic of which 15 years have been spent working in the Vaal, Kuban has seen the best of us at our worst, most vulnerable times…. when our hearts stopped beating; when our families were in danger, or when we needed to be extricated from car wrecks… he has been there to hold us together, pick up the pieces and save lives.
Some years ago, as a Regional Commander at Sedibeng Municipality EMS, Kuban’s challenge was to take over the rural Sebokeng Base, that was neglected and performing poorly. Thanks to Kuban’s action plans, proper management, thorough staff training and boosting the staff’s moral, Sebokeng Base has turned its reputation around from being the worst base to the best in the Vaal Triangle region – and that in a mere 11 months! Sebokeng base has become the flagship and the systems developed, incorporated at all five bases within the Sedibeng Region.
Since then Kuban has worked both locally and internationally on a number of major projects, one of them being an Emergency Medical Development Programme in Lusaka, Zambia, at the College of Anesthesia and Emergency Medical Care, sponsored by First Quantum Minerals Limited. His role as Senior Lecturer was to train the first paramedics for the country, which resulted in 69 EMS ambassadors for Zambia. Some of his other accomplishments include working as an offshore, operational, flight, remote-site, underground and surface paramedic in Mozambique, Tanzania, Burundi, Zambia, Gabon and South Africa.
In 2006 Kuban established ResQbude Emergency Solutions. A once simple emergency informational system has since grown to become an internationally dynamic Covid-19 responsible company leading the way in Emergency Training, Health & Safety, and Cold Chemical Fogging. Their unique approach combines excellent education, tools, and sanitisation practices, allowing ResQbude to be an integral part in the fight to sustain life.
Good news for the Vaal is that ResQbude’s head office is based in Vanderbijlpark. Their training department offers locally and internationally recognised American Heart Association (AHA) and Resus Council of Southern Africa (RCSA) courses. ResQbude fogging is the only SASAC Accredited Cold Chemical fogging company in the Vaal.
What drove Kuban to be such a compassionate and dedicated medic? At the tender age of five, Kuban and his family were involved in a car accident where he lost his dad. Kuban himself had sustained major injuries and spent most of the year in hospital, not even knowing that his father had passed on. This profound understanding of exactly how precious life is, has enabled him to make such a difference in the lives of people who need his care, and those who look up to him as a mentor and educator.
Despite the demands of a career as a paramedic, Kuban’s view of life is uncomplicated: “I ensure that quality time is spent on family, as Emergency Medical Services have taught me that life is too short and too precious to waste on fruitless ventures.”
