Roshnee residents make urgent court application after being without water for days

VEREENIGING. – The residents of Roshnee have made an urgent court application to the Johannesburg High Court. This is after being without water for several days.

Rand Water  recently activated a 20% reduction in water supply across various areas in the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM). According to ELM,  the credit-control measure came into effect on December 01.

ELM said that the reduction would lead to irregular water supply during peak  hours but would not result in total shut down.

According to Roshnee residents, ELM failed to deliver water tankers to the area. Community member Ibrahim Sujee said that the community had to arrange their own water tankers. “It is  unconstitutional for anyone to cut off water. People are sick and we are still under Covid-19 regulations which means that we have to wash our hands regularly.”

Sujee said that in some places, the reduction had resulted in a complete water supply shut down.  Other affected areas include Rus-Ter-Vaal, Falconridge, Sonland Park, Three Rivers, Sebokeng and Evaton.
