After Star Nissan Vereeniging’s amazing performance last year, when it took 10 top categories in the annual National Nissan Ignition Awards, the industry held its breath to see if this respected Vaal Triangle company could repeat their achievements this year. They did indeed!
Star Nissan walked away with 12 out of 17 top awards in the recent Nissan Ignition Awards and again made history when it received the Nissan Dealer of the Year Award for the fifth time in a row, and Nissan’s Finance Dealer of the Year Award for the ninth consecutive year!
Some might say Dealer Principal Edwin Strauss and his team are blessed with the proverbial Midas Touch, but Edwin knows better: It’s darn hard work! The secret is to stay positive, plan for success, believe that you can reach your targets and work tirelessly towards your goals.
Edwin is known for his positive outlook on life. Even in the face of adversity, he stays focused on the upside of any challenge. Due to Covid-19, 2020 will be remembered as a difficult year for businesses worldwide. Many companies retrenched staff or introduced salary cuts. But not at Star Nissan Vereeniging. No one was retrenched. Edwin even gave his staff salary increases at the beginning of lockdown!
“Our staff always give our company their best. Why not give them our best in return,” he says.
He admits that Star Nissan Vereeniging’s performance would not have been possible without his excellent management team. “They’re a very special bunch of people. They are dedicated and committed and use their own initiative. They put in more than is expected of them. Sometimes when I arrive at the office at 06:30, many of them are here already and when I leave at 20:00, many are still here!”
Star Nissan Vereeniging started out as one of the smallest Nissan dealerships in the country 13 years ago but has since grown into the biggest in SA. Whatever critics might say about the Vaal Triangle, Edwin still firmly believes in the area’s business potential and opportunities for growth. That is why the company has in the past years invested enormously in new branches like Star Tech, Star Motor Engineering, Beekman Fitment Centre, Star Taxi, Star Nissan Vanderbijlpark and Star Motor Vaal Mall, to mention but a few.
“None of this would have been possible without the support from our local communities, the local business fraternity, our staff and our management team. Not forgetting our own families. I would like to thank all our staff’s family members, including my wife Susan and daughters Sanzelle and Charlotte for their encouragement and precious support,” says Edwin.
