MIDVAAL. -Thoriso Mohale (9) a Grade 3 learner at Curro Savanna City recently took part in the Curro Chess Online League Championships where she garnered second place in the under 10 category.
Mohale competed with other kids from various provinces.
Last year Thoriso managed to beat all her peers coming out in first place for the online championships in the under 8 category.
Thoriso states that her environment gives her a chance to concentrate on her skills, since chess needs much concentration, focus and attention to detail.
Thosiso says she has started training and practicing for the South African Junior Chess Championships of which she is hoping to register through the help of her coach.
“I’m grateful for the support I get from my school, especially from my sports teacher Ms Khumalo who always motivates and encourage me to do better and achieve more.”
Father Ewert Mohale says Thoriso has always been passionate about the game of chess. “Thoriso has challenged township chess mafias during different local functions, uncles, aunties, taxi drivers and even those who never thought that dynamite comes in small packages have been beaten by Thoriso.
“This should encourage her peers and shows that the sky is the limit, and everything is possible if you put your mind to it.”
