Public locked out as Lesedi workers “abruptly” go on strike

Members of the public found themselves locked out of the Lesedi Local Municipality's offices in H.F. Verwoerd Street in Heidelberg as workers decided to go on “an abruptly informal strike”.

VEREENIGING. – Judging by several perplexed individuals standing outside the offices it is clear that very few people were aware of the strike.

Without any notices on the door, members of the public were seen knocking on the doors and peering through windows of the empty building.

While some locals had come to buy electricity, others came from as far afield as Pretoria, the East Rand and Vereeniging to renew their licenses for which they had applied and made appointments.

The municipality put out a statement on its Facebook page, but only after enquiries were made and a lot of people’s time was wasted.

We would like to profusely apologize to our customers that could not enter our buildings due to an abruptly informal strike that occurred today. The matter is being handled and further details will follow,” the statement read.
